Daniel Rickardsson - unexpected victory in Toblach
Daniel Rickardsson is the unexpected winner of the 10km individual race in Toblach.
The 27-year-old Swede was followed by the Czech Lukas Baur with a time gap of 1,7 seconds. Petter Northug took the third place and was able to consolidate its leading position in the overall Tour de Ski-placing. Thomas Moriggl from Slingia, the best South Tyrolean athlete finished with a time gap of 59,2 seconds to Rickardsson and took the 19th place.
The 6th stage of the Tour de Ski took place in the newly built Nordic Arena of Toblach. Daniel Rickardsson unexpectedly dominated today’s race. The 27-year-old had been 6th in the 4x10km relay race of the world championship 2009 in Liberec. His best Worldcup-placement had been the 8th position which he reached twice in this season, in Rogla and Trondheim. Yesterday, in the 35km race from Cortina to Toblach, Rickardsson finished in 14th place. The today’s victory was the first in his life and he kept his fans in suspense: Rickardsson was in second position during the whole race and could overtake the leading Lukas Baur only in the finishing kilometre.
Yesterday’s winner Petter Northug was able to strengthen his overall leading position, followed by Marcus Hellner and Axel Teichmann. The 30-year-old German finished fourth in the today’s race, Giorgio Di Centa arrived in 7th place and was the best of the Italian team.
